Racing version of Audi RR RS now available for ordering

Alongside the successful R8 LMS, Audi Sport customer racing is now offering another attractive customer sport race car: the racing version of the Audi TT RS can be ordered effective immediately.

The front-wheel drive TT RS powered by an engine with an output of about 279 kW (380 HP) has been developed by quattro GmbH in collaboration with Technical Development of AUDI AG for the SP4T class of the VLN Endurance Championship and extensively tested for about one year. After class victory at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in June, the testing phase culminated in an impressive performance at the 6-hour race on the world’s toughest race track at the end of August: the first pole position of a front-wheel drive vehicle in the history of the VLN and overall victory ahead of rivals with higher power ratings.



"In the TT RS Audi is making the next attractive customer sport race car available to interested teams," says Romolo Liebchen, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. "In line with the products our customers have come to expect of us, the TT RS is another car that has been designed for a wide range of racing conditions and easy handling. The TT RS perfectly mastered the load at the 24-hour race while being able to prove its exceptionally forgiving handling characteristics at the 6-hour race in the unpredictable conditions of constantly changing weather."

As a production-derived unit the 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo engine is designed for extremely high mileage. Its power drives the front wheels via a sequential six-speed racing transmission. Paddle shifters allow customers to fully concentrate on the action on the race track.


Audi has developed a race car body for the TT RS that is designed for maximum safety and high aerodynamic efficiency. But downforce is not the only thing that helps to put the power on the road. A sophisticated racing suspension with a wide range of adjustment options that are easy to operate assures supreme road-holding and particularly good balance.

Audi Sport customer racing offers the ready-to-race TT RS to its customers at the price of 180,000 euros (net). "For this model we also provide optimal support to our customers," says Werner Frowein, Managing Director of quattro GmbH who is responsible for the customer activities at Audi. "They benefit from our experience with the R8 LMS and the extensive testing program we have completed with the TT RS. Customers can look forward to a reliable, easy-to-drive and affordable high-tech sports car plus the Audi service to which they have become accustomed."

For a fun 1980's street racing movie about a high schooler with a blown 350 Chevelle and a need to raise money betting on his wining the races, watch "Catch Me If You Can" on youtube, because it's no where else

 The movie starts with the guy racing a 73 Duster,  

 Then having to try his Chevelle against local senior talent, the Sandman. The Sandman was played by an incredibly long working guy, Bob Minor, who has been doing movie and tv stunts and stunt coordinator work since 1970.  The Sandman couldn't make the curve when the cops started chasing the streetracers, and wiped out

 then the guy has several races against some cool cars, and keeps winning.

And with his confidence at an all time high, he then takes a high stakes bet with the local gangster loan shark, the Fatman, that he can beat the gangters driver, the rotton crook gangster fixes the race with a ringer who destroys the Chevelle, and the high schooler loses his mony.

in a desperate attempt to win double or nothing, the kid bets he can beat the local street racing legend "Fast Freddy" 's historically famous high speed run from Minneapolis to St Paul. Surpise polt twist, the kids High School Principl was Fast Freddy, and the 57 Chev that made that race is buried under the football field, ready to get vengeance against the gangster

The high school auto shop class gets the 57 Chev race ready, and pulls off the first water soluble paint job in a movie I ever saw. Also the first example of the one car gets chased into a building by cops, but lots of identical cars leave, and the cops can't track the right car... trick. Mix them together and a red car goes in but leaves a car wash blue with a flamejob, among a dozen other cars or various colors

This movie is fun, but never going to get put on DVD, there just isn't a demand for 1980's high school action street racing movies. The VHS is so rare, the one guy who has them on Amazon, wants $170 dollars.

I hate price gougers, so I'm telling all of you you can watch it free on You Tube. The quality isn't sharp, but neither was 1980's tv and movie resolution.

and also filled us in on the background of the GB Cup Race: James Gordon Bennett, the wealthy owner of the New York Herald newspaper in 1900 organized a race between teams, each representing their national automobile club. This for several years was the most important race of the year. The race was driven on public roads in the country of the previous winner. In 1902 the Gordon Bennett Trophy won by a British Napier. Auto Racing was not allowed on public roads in Great Britain, and the 1903 race was held in Ireland. Napier’s cars were painted green for this race, the national color of Ireland, in honor of the host country. Napier was as a result the first car that was painted in what we now refer to as “British Racing Green”.

Land Rover enters three concept Range_e 4WD Olug-in diesel hybrids in Rac Future Car Challenge 2011

Following its debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover is using the RAC Future Car Challenge as the first opportunity to showcase three of its Range_e concept models in the UK.

The Land Rover Range_e is the latest manufacture to enter the event and has allocated three of its concept Range_e models, which made its debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show. This development model is equipped with an advanced plug-in hybrid diesel-electric powertrain that Land Rover expects to make available in future production models, following the scheduled launch of its diesel-electric hybrid in 2013.



The Range_e is one of a number of Land Rover projects supported by the UK Government's Technology Strategy Board and five prototype models are currently engaged in a test programme with Land Rover's fellow members of the CABLED - Coventry and Birmingham Low Emissions Demonstrators - consortium.

Land Rover anticipates its plug-in hybrid system will be brought to market in the near future, following on from the debut of its first standard diesel-electric hybrid models from 2013.

The Range_e is based on the Range Rover Sport and uses the current 245PS 3.0-litre TDV6 diesel engine, working with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a 69kW electric motor. Using a parallel hybrid system, with a 14.2kW/h lithium-ion battery that can be recharged from an external 240V power source, the Range_e can be driven on electric power alone for more than 20 miles, with zero harmful tailpipe emissions. Overall CO2 emissions are just 89g/km.

An increasing number of major automotive manufacturers are, like Land Rover, choosing to showcase pre-production low-energy vehicles at the RAC Future Car Challenge. Not only does this promote them to a large audience being driven on public roads but the robust energy measurement processes, directed by Dr Ricardo Martinez-Botas of the New Energy Lab at Imperial College London,give reliable information on their performance.

Ben Cussons, Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club Motoring Committee and the FCC Technical Panel, says: "We very much welcome the involvement of Land Rover by entering three of its prototype Range_e vehicles. The RAC Future Car Challenge is, by definition, an event to bring future vehicle technology to the attention of the car buying public. This will enable them to make better informed choices when considering the environmental impact of future vehicle purchases."

 1944 east 138th street ... and that truck bed in the bottom of the photo looks handmade, and put into the rumble seat area... was the neat trick to shift a car classification during fuel rationing during WW2 from car to commercial truck and then it could get more gas more often if I recall correctly.. and this is a 1944 photo
