Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster gained 200 pounds over the coupé, but Aston Martin claimed the car would have the same performance as the coupé. To compensate for the loss of the roof a new, super-stiff cross-member was added to the frame. The soft top could be raised or lowered electronically in 18 seconds and could be operated in speeds up to 30 mph (50 km/h). It had the same 4.3 litre V8 from the hard top version producing 380 bhp (283 kW; 385 PS) at 7000 rpm, 302 ft·lbf (409 N·m) at 5000 rpm & a top speed of 178 mph (286 km/h).

The tuned V8 engine is coupled to a modified version of the seven-speed SportShift II transmission, which comes with seven short ratio gears to deliver intensive driving involvement. Just hope that it doesn’t jolt your head too much with such a short shift. The Vantage S also comes with a ‘Sport’ button which quickens the gear changes and gives the driver a more aggressive throttle response while also opening the exhaust bypass valves across most of the engine speed range.

In addition to the engine tune-up, Aston Martin also added a quicker steering rack, huge rotors and six-piston calipers in the front end, new springs and dampers, and 19-inch wider rear wheels to complete the chasis revisions.

The Vantage S is greatly inspired by the 2011 Vantage GT4 race car with rigid bonded aluminum chassis and roll cage. On the exterior, Aston Marting also added the V12 Vantage appearance package that is available on the coupe and Roadster.

Exterior design elements for the coupe and roadster include a low stance, minimal front and rear overhangs, a skin of lightweight alloy and advanced composites, stylish side strakes, halogen projector headlights, LED rear lights, and a long hood with the Aston Martin wings emblem near the nose.

Under the hood of both trims is a 4.3-liter V8 engine that produces 380 horsepower. The engine sits behind the front axle but ahead of the passenger cabin (officially a front mid-engine layout), providing the V8 Vantage with unique sports-car balance, handling, and stability. With its V8, the Vantage can leap from 0 to 60 in about five seconds.
