Bhoys beaten by Benfica

An under-strength Celtic side were beaten 3-1 by Benfica in the Canadian National Exhibition Cup in Toronto.

Celtic, missing a number of their international stars, fell behind after just three minutes when Keirrison scored from close range after Nelson Oliviera had struck the post.

Tony Mowbray's side drew level on the stroke of half-time with youngster Paul McGowan finding the net.

Paddy McCourt went close to giving Celtic the lead early in the second half when he saw his shot come back off the crossbar.

Benfica restored their lead on 58 minutes when Ruben Pinto smashed a shot past Celtic keeper Dominic Cervi.

Javier Saviola, who had earlier hit the post, added a third 15 minutes from time to condemn Celtic to defeat.
