European debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8

The new high-performance Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 makes its European debut at the 2011 International Frankfurt Motor Show. Combining legendary Jeep capability and utility with head-turning ‘Street and Racing Technology’ performance, the SRT8 is powered by an all-new 6.4-litre HEMI® V-8 engine, producing 470 bhp and 630 Nm of torque, and making the new flagship model the most powerful, high-performance Jeep vehicle ever produced.

Available in Jeep UK dealerships from the first quarter of 2012, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 features advanced new active damping suspension, which is managed by the new Selec-Track system to optimise road handling, in addition to a new system which allows Fuel Saver Technology to ensure a 13-percent improvement in motorway fuel efficiency and a 450 mile range. Meanwhile, the lowered profile, race-inspired interior and exclusive SRT steering wheel with mounted paddle shifters give a performance-orientated feel to the Jeep flagship model.

Designed and built using the proven SRT (Street Racing Technology) formula that raises performance to dramatic levels, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 accelerates from 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds, 0-100-0 mph in the mid-16 second range, and has a top speed of over 155 mph.

Powering the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is Chrysler Group’s all-new 6.4-litre HEMI® V-8 with Fuel Saver Technology that delivers 470 bhp and 630 Nm of torque – an improvement of 50 horsepower and 61 Nm torque over the 6.1-litre HEMI V-8 it replaces.

For 2011, all Jeep Grand Cherokee models boast improved and refined on-road ride thanks in part to the vehicle’s body structure – torsional stiffness was improved 146 percent versus the previous model. However, Jeep engineers have improved on-road handling even further, with the Grand Cherokee SRT8 featuring a new SRT-tuned, active damping suspension managed by the new Jeep Selec-Track system – allowing drivers to manually choose between five dynamic modes for specific driving conditions.

In the UK, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 will become available in one specification. On top of the unique SRT8 items, standard equipment will offer some of the most technologically advanced features available today, including: Quadra-Trac active on-demand four-wheel drive transfer system, Command-View® dual-pane sunroof, Uconnect satellite navigation system, adaptive cruise control, 20-inch forged aluminium wheels, blind-spot monitoring with Rear Cross-path detection and new SRT high-performance vented Brembo brakes.

The exterior of the SRT8 is characterised by a lowered (3 cm), more aggressive profile and reveals the unmistakable Jeep personality and unique SRT DNA. LED multi-function daytime running lamps amplify the look of the high performance Jeep, while exclusive SRT features add to the masculine image – complemented by hood mounted dual black heat extractors for added engine cooling. At the rear, the SRT performance influence continues with a new liftgate spoiler, air diffuser and a dual-sport exhaust system featuring 10 cm exhaust tail pipes.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee’s refined, exclusive interior takes on a performance feel in SRT8 form with race-inspired technology and SRT-exclusive appointments including carbon fibre accent inserts, paddle-shift gear controls, Electronic Vehicle Information Centre (EVIC) and new SRT-styled Nappa leather and suede seats.

As would be expected with any Jeep, as part of the standard equipment the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 offers a vast array of safety and security features.
