Lightweight aftermarket wheels are typically made from one of two materials -- aluminum and magnesium. Forged aluminum is a cost-efficient material to build wheels from while being easy to work with -- two reasons why it continues to be a top choice with tuners and racers around the world. Meanwhile, forged magnesium is even lighter than aluminum, but unfortunately it's higher cost and labor-intensive nature means it's usually reserved for ultra-exclusive race and road cars (Porsche's Carrera GT has magnesium wheels).
